Scientists develop way to store lasting data in DNA

A computer science professor at Columbia University and a member of New York Genome Center have found a new way to store information with DNA by using an algorithm designed for streaming video on a cellphone. They believe data stored this way will last hundreds of thousands of years. The researchers collaborated on this project over NYSERNet’s R&E network.
