IBM explores laughter using artificial intelligence

The IBM Watson Research Center set out to investigate several key questions regarding the function of human laughter. The goal of the study was to discover and recognize the range of laughter types within conversation, and also understanding the purpose behind each as they relate to the expression of emotion. The researchers utilized artificial intelligence models to categorize different types of laughter based on their characteristics and pair them with the corresponding emotions.
