NYSERNet is presenting the Network Security and Engineering Technical Summit (Tech Summit) this year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies. The Tech Summit will feature presentations of interest to Network Engineers, Security Engineers, and Systems Administrators that represent innovations in technology and efforts to stay abreast of emerging technologies affecting Higher Education and K-12 institutions. The Tech Summit will convene at 8:30 am on May 16th with breakfast and registration to start at 8:00 am.

Shuttle:

NYSERNet has partnered with RPI to provide shuttle services for Tech Summit participants on the day of the event, May 16th. Shuttle services will be provided from the two hotels in the morning to the CBIS building and to the Albany-Rensselaer Train Station (AMTRAK) after the event ends (approximately 4:50 p.m. – timed so that downstate participants can ride the 6:00 p.m. train to NYC). Note: A train also departs at 7:05 p.m. for destinations to the west. The train station is 6 miles from the CBIS building. The shuttles will run on the following schedule:

Departing from the Hilton Garden Inn to CBIS (RPI):

  • 1st Shuttle: Boarding begins at 7:30 a.m. Departs at 7:35 a.m. Arrives at CBIS at 7:40 a.m.
  • 2nd Shuttle: Boarding begins at 7:45 a.m. Departs at 7:50 a.m. Arrives at CBIS at 7:55 a.m.

      (Try to make the 1st shuttle if possible to avoid too many on the 2nd shuttle)

Departing from the Best Western Franklin Inn to CBIS (RPI):

  • 1st and only Shuttle: Boarding begins at 7:30 a.m. Departs at 7:40 a.m. Arrives at CBIS at 7:50 a.m.

Departing from CBIS (RPI) to Albany-Rensselaer Train Station (AMTRAK):

  • 1st and only Shuttle: Boarding begins at 4:50 p.m. Departs at 5:00 p.m. Arrives at Train Station at 5:20 p.m.
    Train to NYC departs at 6:00 p.m. Train to Syracuse, Rochester, and Depew departs at 7:05 p.m.

For participants arriving via train or plane: NYSERNet recommends that you stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Garden Inn offers a complimentary round trip shuttle to either the Albany-Rensselaer Train Station (AMTRAK) or the Albany airport. Use the Hilton shuttle the evening of your arrival to get to the hotel, then use the NYSERNet/RPI shuttle to get to the event and then to the train station at the end of the event. The Hilton Garden Inn is located 1 mile north of the Rensselaer's Center for Biotechnology & Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS). It is about a 20 minute walk or a five minute car ride with very easy directions in either case.

There is an onsite restaurant and the Recovery Sports Grill is also located in the hotel. There is also Internet access, fitness center, and a shuttle for Amtrak and Airport.

The Best Western Plus Franklin Square Inn is located in downtown Troy and across the street from the world famous The Dinosaur Bar-B-Q Restaurant. In fact many of the region's more popular restaurants are no more than a five minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel is about 1 mile drive or 0.8 mile walk up the RPI approach and through the campus to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Center for Biotechnology & Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS). It is about a 20 minute walk or a five minute car ride with very easy directions in either case.
