NYSERNet Projects - Current Projects
The Northeast Research and Education Network was formed by the regional networks in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island in order to build a multi-state optical backbone that would both link the various existing networks and provide advanced transport capabilities for the entire area. To date, NEREN has obtained an IRU for dark fiber through Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut and begun to utilize it as a replacement for existing connections. Future plans include a DWDM network that will provide optical transport and will tie New York City and Boston together at much higher bandwidths than previously available to the R&E community.
