Network technology is key to advancing the science and practice of healthcare, and promoting affordability. Today, more than a dozen New York State medical schools, teaching hospitals, and medical research centers have joined NYSERNet seeking to leverage this promise. They rely on NYSERNet to provide infrastructure for their private networks, as well as access to the global medical research community.
Hospitals in New York City are using NYSERNet's NYC Optical Fiber Network to develop private, secure, scalable networks among geographically disparate locations, enabling the transfer of medical images and patient records, eliminating unnecessary duplication and related expenses, and facilitating efficient storage and retrieval of medical records.
NYSERNet's Research & Education (R&E) Network supports the high bandwidth, real-time video and data transfer requirements of the healthcare community. Via the Network, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare experts are able to consult on patient care, offer continuing-education classes, conduct research, and share results of clinical studies.
